Enough tears…

So some family with a very badly behaved two-year-old toddler asks for the check at a Mexican joint in the north of England. The manager, breathing a huge sigh of relief after dealing with their howling, messy brat for over two hours, prints it up and places it on the table. Listed on the check among miscellaneous extras like “mild spicy” and “extra tacos” are the words:”thank you littel fucker.” (So what if the guy can’t spell.) The father has a major hissy fit. Threatens to sue. Seems the manager meant to delete it before printing the check. Or not. Anyway, the poor guy gets sacked. I, of course, am totally with the manager. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been in restaurants and watched parents smile, affectionately, at children who should be playing Damian in the Demon Seed, Part 3.

Guess who’s with you on this one. I don’t get it either, Brenda, how some parents can be s-o-o-o-o oblivious to the feelings of other diners, how they don’t give a flying fuck that their child (love the Damien reference) is literally slaughtering everyone else’s dining experience. And in some cases VERY EXPENSIVE dining experience. If I owned a restaurant down the street from that incident and heard about this, I would immediately hire the sacked manager and find something, anything, for him to do. I think this is residue from that so-called “me generation” crap, this sense of entitlement that places ME and Mine first. And if you want to take the word “residue” to mean the children of the “me generation”, be my guest!
(Geez… and I was in such a good mood this morning.)

Oh well… I wrote this post to cheer everyone up after the story of N. So sorry if it seems to have managed the opposite. But i love the me and the mine part…Will try harder tomorrow.

Brenda, I should’ve done it a long time ago. I love your writing and now hopefully those who come to me will find you and share that experience. The honor was mine.

Meanwhile… MEANWHILE, Lady, thank YOU from the bottom of MY heart for the James Wolcott shout-out. Jeeezuzzzzz, Mary and Joseph!!!! I’m speechless. The man is my frigging idol, this blows me away. I’ll have to get back to you later when I know how to better express myself. All I can say for now is simply thank you. And “Holy shit!!!”
